WO 14474562 – Windows XP Recycles Itself, Restarts Automatically

Posted by Kyle Moore on Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

An on-site diagnosis revealed that the customers machine would attempt to boot but then when it got to the Windows XP splash screen with scrolling status bar it would pause and then recycle. We attempted to repair this issue by recovering orphaned operating system files. We then attempted to load XP system restore to turn back the clock to a known good working date. XP system restore would not load. Also tried “Last Known Good Configuration” – no success. Finally had to resort to a soft restore which maintained all customer data on the OS, but restored the operating system and applications to factory settings. This, of course, resolved the issue.
